It was so nice to wake up at Many Glacier Hotel on our fourth day in the park. After the previous day’s long hike, we slept in a bit and let the kids get a little more rest while we enjoyed coffee and the view from the front deck.
Hot Tip! If you let two teens sleep in their own hotel room, pretend to be housekeeping knocking on the door while they are still sleeping. They get up real quick!
We were all hoping to see a moose on this trip and got a few good tips about Fishercap Lake in Many Glacier being a hot spot. So off we all went to go on a moose hunt. We parked at the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn parking lot and did a half mile hike out to Fishercap Lake along the Swiftcurrent Pass Trail. The area was so quiet and serene, perfect location for a moose swim, but not while we were there!

After eating many meals out of a cooler you may be ready for a hot meal. We chose to head into the town of Babb, MT, a tiny town consisting of a general store, a post office and a little diner, Glacier’s Edge Café. The service was great, the menu was exactly what we were looking for and I had one of the best BLT sandwiches! With full bellies, we were ready for our next adventure.
I am always a fan of being on the water. Tooling around on my stand up paddle board or canoeing down a river. Being from Minnesota, I have the luxury of paddling often, but not surrounded by mountains. Glacier Park Boat Company makes it pretty easy to rent water craft right on the shore in front of Many Glacier Hotel. We did not make this reservation ahead of time; we walked up and they had plenty of options. It was an enchanting experience to be in a little rowboat amidst the giant mountains. Being surrounded by the tall peaks, breathtaking beauty and the lush forest, you can’t help but feel connected to nature.

Our youngest requested horseback riding on this trip. We had done a horseback riding trip through Saguaro National Park a few years back and she fell in love. After figuring out when our itinerary would accommodate a ride best and doing some research on outfitters, I decided to use Swan Mountain Outfitters. They seemed to have the best options for duration and location choices. I was also very satisfied with the reviews that I read and their restrictions proved that they put the welfare of the horses first, which is important to us.
The corral for Swan Mountain Outfitters was essentially at the back of the parking lot for Many Glacier Hotel which was very convenient for us. We booked the one hour Swiftcurrent loop at $85 a person with Ethan as our guide. The terrain on Piegan trail was hilly and our horses (Ike, Navigator, Trevor and one we can’t remember) did a great job of bringing us up and over and around the dense forest.
