Not much is said about Yoho National Park in all the travel books that I read. But Yoho surprised me and turned out to be home to one of my favorite lakes on this trip. Emerald Lake is just about an hour car ride northwest from downtown Banff. There wasn’t a line for renting a canoe at Boathouse Trading Co., right on the shore, so we paid $100 to rent a canoe for an hour. One hour ended up being just enough time to paddle to the end of the lake and back. The calm turquoise water was beautiful and made for a very enjoyable ride.

There is also a trail that takes you around the lake for a bit over a three mile hike if you want to take in the view from the trail.
After a relaxing morning at Emerald Lake, we headed down the road to Takakkaw Falls to see one of the highest waterfalls in Canada. The roar of the waterfall sends a mist that will get you a bit wet as you are walking up! The first part of the trail is paved and easy to walk to get a good view. We chose to climb a bit further along the falls!
